On Friday, TikTok’s parent company ByteDance launched the internal beta of Coze Space, an AI-powered productivity platform enabling the collaboration of users and AI agents in the workspace.
Coze Space is built on ByteDance’s self-developed Doubao large language model and supports the MCP (Model Context Protocol), enabling seamless integration with Lark and Amap among others. The platform features a general-purpose agent interface and introduces an “Expert Agent” system that handles tasks from answering questions to completing work assignments.
Initially, ByteDance explored using external models like DeepSeek-R1 but found limitations in tool invocation. After testing six Chinese LLMs, the team opted for a suite of in-house models led by Doubao 1.5 Pro, citing its strengths in instruction following, tool usage, multimodal capabilities, and low inference costs – ideal, the company said, for scaling up.[Cailian, in Chinese]
