A car has driven into a group of people at a Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg on Friday, according to a government spokesman.
Some media outlets are reporting several injuries and possibly also deaths, but the information is not confirmed. It is also unclear whether it was a terrorist attack.
Emergency services are reportedly searching the area for possible explosives.
The driver of the car has been arrested, according to dpa news agency, citing unidentified government officials in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
Located west of Berlin, Magdeburg is the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, with a population of about 240,000.
